Weekly Words Challenge '09

It's a new year and I feel like shaking things up a bit. Here are some ideas for the WWC going forward. Please discuss and/or add ideas in the comment section of this post. What gets decided here will effect the WWC for the entire year.

Using...
1. *Letters of the alphabet in place of a word (A, B, C, etc.)
2. Shapes (triangle, circle, octagon, etc.)
3. Colors, again (that was really fun!)
4. Numbers, again
5. Emotions (happy, sad, angry, etc.)
6. Seasons (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall)
7. Directions (North, South, East, West)
8. Verbs (throw, sit, run, etc.)
9. Words with two meanings (bear, wind, lie, etc.)
10. Substituting one word for a random photo to symbolize your week. Like participating in the "52 Week" challenge.

*Would go on for 26 weeks, obviously.

(Thank you
Stella for all your input on these!)

The words assignment for next Tuesday is to post your favorite pictures from '08. They don't need to be ones that you submitted for the WWC, but they have to be pictures that you (yourself and any multiple personalities) took.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go
here for details. We also have a Flickr group for easy shareability. The pros of which include getting to put "Lowly Foon" on your resume AND learning the words for next week an hour early!

P.S. "I Heart Etsy" will be back next week.

you are 100% completely off the chain now aren't you?

I like the idea of emotions. I think you should have a week (or EVERY week) when the WWC word has to be communicated through a picture of beer.

I like colors. Heck, I like all the ideas. And I am totally playing every week this year. 2009 resolution. :)

those are all really good ideas and I have a new phone that takes cleared pictures so I will probably participate more often this year.

BTW thank you for the kind words, I am lucky that he had a very big network of tight knit friends, we have all been keeping each other's spirits up and trying to help each other as much as possible.

I like all those ideas.

I'm going to go stare at all my pics from 2008 now and decide which are the least crappy for next week now. ;-)

I like the idea of the colors letters verbs and emotions. (or some combination of them) and then maybe a bonus picture of a number or season or weekly summary or something.

You could also pick a word from the really hard dictionary that we'd have to look up. Or a foreign word.

Oh no. I love your "I Heart Etsy". You manage to find the oddest things and it makes me laugh.

Tink, those are all great ideas, I can't wait to see how you combine them to drive us crazy!

I like broad themes that inspire people to dig in and use their creativity and imagination.

Once at work some of the 'shutterbugs' decided we would do a challenge. The first theme we had was "reflections".

Also, some good ones might be challenges in Black and White, or certain emotions like said above, Portraits, Night life.

Maybe even a "Photojournalism" type challenge.

Or here's a good one, "Things Aren't Always What They Seem".

Doesn't have to be key words, can be like that, maybe just a "Themed" challenge.

This will be great... new and fun endeavors.

:)

BTW: My word verification is "OVULES" how disgusting sounding.

I think I am going to try to do this again. It's my new year's goal! Haha!

I've taken a little time off from participating but since one of my new year's resolutions (for lack of a better word) is to take more photos. So I'm in again! I loved it before and will again. I love the idea of a photo symbolizing a the week you had. And colors, numbers, verbs...oh crap, I like 'em all! Some help I am!

I especially love 1,2,3,4, 7 and 9.
I think 6 (seasons) have been done to death - we all have pretty pictures of snow, spring flowers, etc. - unless there was a twist - and naturally we can count on Tink for a twist! I'm not enthusiastic about 5 or 8, but apparently that's just me - everybody else seems to be- so it's probably a deep psychological issue that I should investigate in myself ; ) - and I don't quite understand 10.
However, looking forward to doing it all again in 2009! Happy New Year, everyone!

Dangit, blogger just ate my comment. *sigh* do over...

I like 1,2,3,4,9, and 10 (although I'm not exactly sure what you are saying there). Like Chatty, I'm not real big on 5 or 8, so perhaps the two of us need therapy together. Chatty, let's have margaritas! (That's therapy, isn't it?)

Waaaay back in high school photography class, we had a couple of interesting assignments: one was based on the word "foot" (or was it "feet"??) and it was surprising what people came up with. Another assignment was to take photos based on a song title, or the line of a song, or the line of a poem --SOMETHING like that!-- which was also pretty cool. I'd be interested in doing some photo assignments along those veins.

*is it wrong of me to like putting "Lowly Foon" on my resume?

I so have this on my list of resolutions that I unfortunately never get to. D'oh! I'd love to be this organized.

I love doing shapes, numbers, letters and colors ... those are my favorites.

But I also want to do things like brick, stone, water, bark, ... nature-y things.

and wall, fence, door, arch ... architecture terms

I also like it when the words do not relate to each other on a given week ... so I find I tend to partcipate less if the words are "old and young" or "fat and slim" than if it was "green and triangle" or "door and clouds". KWIM?

I'm excited to start playing again!

i haven't played before, although i have enjoyed others' entries.

but ... i might ... the letters are intriguing...

as well as emotions.

(and can i direct you guys back to my dec 31 post for this week's? it was exactly that -- my fave photos of '08)

Hey those topics sound like ones I can play along with.

Already posted bunch pics from 2008 on my blog. Not necessarily my favourite ones though.

I started WWC when you first took it over and then fizzled out. I'm going to try to do it this year and be consistent!!!
