I Forgot To Screw It On

...and now my head is gone.

The volleyball I'm using in it's place has made a request that I not overtax it. It is, after all, just a volleyball. So I'm giving you a mission.

This is our house.

It needs paint.

Preferably a light base with dark trim, because that's what's going to be easiest. I need some suggestions on colors. Got any?

Help a volleyball out!

I've got vinyl siding on my place, so outdoor painting techniques are a thing of the past for me, but my neighbor painted his place cream with burgundy/maroon trim. It looks great. Just an idea.

Something to think about....when you paint something dark it automatically draws the eye. Do you want your garage door to be the first thing people look at??

Of course, you are in Florida and you people love the beach pastel colors. Why not hot pink and turquoise?? ha!

Love the office with the black stripe!

I agree with what Debbie said, go for a neutral color on the garage door.

So what is the norm in your area, is it pretty much anything goes? Around here a lot of people stick to earth tones, greens, browns etc, so example if I painted my house yellow with black trim like I've always wanted to, it would stick out like a sore thumb...

J: Oh rub it in why dontcha. ;)

Debbie: We're probably going to replace the garage door in the next year or two. It's really really old. So for the time being, for cost reasons, we might paint it the base color.

Fiwa: It's pretty much "everything goes" around here. And believe me, people take advantage of it. The houses next to us and behind us are BRIGHT yellow. The house two down is lime green trimmed. The house across the street is tan with black trim. I think we're pretty safe no matter what we decide to do.

Well, if you're safe no matter what you do - how about a nice hot pink with purple trim? :D

I vote: Soft Yellow with Burgundy Trim

Our neighbors house is soft creamy yellow with a purply burgundy trim - it's stunning. I'll take a picture of it and send it to you.

I would definitely look around the neighborhood and see what everybody else has done. You don't really want to stand out too much. Well *YOU* stand out already, but you don't want your HOUSE to stand out too much.

Maybe a yellow with a dark green trim. White with black trim? Nahhhh ... Maybe a kind of a Mediterranean color scheme?

Actually, I would go with siding. I know it's expensive though.

Yellow with hunter green (white on the garage door)

or

Khaki with hunter green (ditto for the door).

Kim (who's very glad her house is brick and she doesn't have to stress about this)

From a purely-aesthetic perspective, great colors include light chocolates, bluish-lavenders, and old-school white or yellow. From a property-value perspective, blend in with the neighborhood.

I say you cover the entire house with cookie monster fur and put big googly eyes on the garage door.

Aubergine for the trim! But really, i just like to say the word aubergine.

Nice looking house.

I'd go for something in neon.

I have always liked the look of a grey house with crisp white trim. 'Course, I grew up in a grey house with crisp white trim, so I might be a bit biased.

I'm in colour hell myself, trying to pick colours to paint the inside of my house. You come help me and I'll help you.

My first thought was along the same lines as Debbie's comment: It's Florida. Go with a sky blue with off-white trim. Or salmon trim.

But when I tried to think more conservatively, I went more toward Newt's pale yellow (but with green trim a bit darker than the paint in the can in the photo).

Hey "Wilson"!

The husband and I are in the same exact boat that you are. In fact, I wanted to paint our very plain, boring cream de la cream colored trim a dark blue. The husband has refused. I'm sorry? What?

However, when mentioning dark green, he seems to be very okay with this. How does that work? I mean, especially from a man who is color blind.

Seriously.

***Though I like Newt's suggestion. We have a pale, pale yellow brick home. . . let us confuse the husband even more with some burgandy!

Can't wait to see what you choose. . . .

I think pale yellow with white trim is my vote.

Are you going to paint it yourselves or pay someone to do it? Or in other words, just how much of a masochist are you??

Corky would be the best person to ask for that, I stopped over from his log.

You could go with a pale blue/grey. And I do like the suggestion that is floating around of the deep burgundy trim. You don't want to go black, I think.

Good luck!

Soft grey and slate blue trim

or

Khakhi and hunter green.

But, whatever you choose...don't do siding! It's awful and cheap-looking and then the resale value is based on whether or not prospective buyers like the colours you picked. So permanent and so icky.

That's a pretty color and cute house too!

Cute house!! I'm thinking white/light tan/very light grey with burgundy/maroon or dk/hunter green trim.

Be careful not to spike the volleyball, it could hurt! :-D

Do a light gray/dark gray thing. Or, a light mocha with a darker chocolate trim. Of course, sounding like that you might want to eat the house.

I vote with Michelle. I really like the grey/blue combination. There is a house in our neighborhood that color and it looks beautiful.

Good Luck!

It's hard to tell what color the roof is from the picture. If it is grey, I would go with a charcoal trim & garage door & a cranberry or bright blue front door. I would also paint the house greyish taupe (you know I light Tampa Bay Bucs pewter)... If the roof isn't grey, then everything needs to be re-thought!

Draw an outline of your property, the postion your house is to the sun in the morning, afternoon and evening. The slant of the property, etc.

Then scan it and email it to me.

Before you put a coat of paint on that baby you need to make yourself a garden.

Agree?
