Harry Potter A Go-Go

It's the topic on everyone's lips today... What will become of Harry Potter?

"The End."

Something all who have followed the story have been anticipating with excitement and dread. There is security around the boxes at the local bookstore. People run in to see if they can reserve a copy and leave dejected. "We've been sold out for weeks." The cashier says, as if she's said it a million times already today. There are teenagers walking the street with wands and brooms, striped socks and black framed glasses. Kids are put down for naps in expectation of a long night. We wait.

I never thought I'd get wrapped up in this. Sure, I love the books. But I never thought I'd be the kind to watch the clock, to plan my night around standing in line. There's a static charge in the air. I have to know. I have to know the end before someone tells me. That's what it boils down to. I could wait a week. I've just begun reading the 6th book again. I've had numerous discussions with coworkers and friends about what we think is going on. But after tonight, there will be no more guessing. Anyone could know.

Where will you be when the clock strikes midnight? The end is coming...

Will you be there?

Around The Water Cooler:
Coworker: Got any big plans this weekend?
Tink: Hoop and I are going to the B&N tonight for the Harry Potter book release.
Coworker: Are they doing something special?
Tink: They have face painting, costumes, contests, stuff like that. For the most part it's just a bunch of people milling around and waiting for the book to be released. Last time they had over 200 people there.
Coworker: 200 people?! Aren't you worried about riots and fights breaking out?
Tink: *Blink* At a HARRY POTTER assembly?
Coworker: You never know.
Tink: Us book nerds are usually a pretty peaceful lot.
Coworker: You can't tell me all those little kids waving around their pointy wands doesn't scare you. *Shudder*

July Search Terms:
(What people put into search engines that bring them here)
1. shrinking brother
Now that's a trick! Does it work on exes too?
2. dog tits Proof of what dogs do while we're away... They search on the Internet for porn.
3. ass like whoa
4. strong tink I've been eating Wheaties.
5. funny film man with leaky nipples

Daily Hoop Conversation:
Tink: Somebody's birthday is in less than a month.
Hoop: Whose?
Tink: Yours.
Hoop: I'm not having any more birthdays.
Tink: No?
Hoop: Nope. I'm giving you time to catch up.

Have a great weekend!

WE'RE THERE! Brent and I bought our copy months ago. We're going to the store tonight for the party and then to get the book at 12:01 am. I'M SO EXCITED I THINK I'LL EXPLODE!

Okay, I've turned all caps off now.

As you were. ;o)

I never felt rushed to read a Harry book before but this time I do. Like you said, you don't want to find out through other people what happens. Gotta find out for myself. Enjoy the moment. I won't be out tonight at midnight but I will be at the store tomorrow morning first thing. Ok, unless I can't sleep and then I might get up and head out to B&N.

And I love your Daily Hoop Conv. very cute.

It's *much* more respectful to be a nightcrawler waiting in line for a fantasy book than it is to be the bugs-under-rocks that camped out waiting for Windows 95 back in the day. Huzzah! Have fun tonight...and don't tell me anything about the plot (please).

Oh crap - I didn't think about it that way! Damn. Does that mean it's too late for me if I didn't reserve a copy?

You aren't seriously going to stay awake until you read the whole thing are you? I mean, I read fast, but that's going to take a couple of days isn't it? Or are you cheating and reading the end first? Tell me no...

Michelle: Alright! *High five* Us nerds gotta band together.

Newt: Aw come on Newty. Be a nerd with Michelle and me!

Spamboy: You don't have to worry about spoilers here. I'm not going to say a single word.

Fiwa: I probably won't get past the first few chapters tonight :). But I'll have the whole weekend to dedicate to it. Hoop and I are house sitting for the folks in the middle of nowhere. If I were you, I'd start calling the bookstores right now and see if they have some reserve spots left!

I'm ready for HP 7 but I don't know if I'll get it read in one sitting. I'm a little weird in that I don't worry so much about spoilers. I love the books though and I will set aside anything else that I'm reading to read #7 though.

Oh yeah baby! It's the Harry Potty release party! I'm TOTALLY going to be in bed when midnight rolls around.

Mrs. Lefty and my son are going to our local bookstore, though.

Freaks, all of you!

I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon.com a couple of months ago. They notified me yesterday that my copy is being "prepared for shipping" whatever that means. Are they just getting around to binding the book? Are they gift-wrapping it? Anyway, I'll get it some time next week.

Jay: I don't think I COULD read that book in one sitting. My eyeballs would fall out. But I'm going to avoid the net and the news until I'm done.

Lefty: Don't be a hater. ;)

Betty: They're having the house elves make them.

Ok, that was stupid. I tried!

You know, I felt really sad when Friends ended. I mean like cried like a little girl. It was the medication, but for some odd reason I really connected with young Harry. I'll be sad to see the series end and angry if she tries to continue it. I feel like she'll do justice to the ending. She's known what it would be for years. It's like that line from Stranger Than Fiction, "No, that's the way the book has to end."

You know who's scary? Your co-worker. We need to talk about my step daughter.

I can't find my receipt that says I purchased HP two months ago. This, from the gal who keeps every receipt long past its expiration date.

How much do you think I'm kicking myself now?

*sad*

i'm not interested in the least in harry potter, but i almost want to stand in line for it just because i enjoy big pop culture things that are all hyped up. the kinship with your fellow man is great.

i remember talking with people who camped out in the rain for a ps3. most of them -- yes, most -- said they didn't want it for themselves. they said they'd flip them on ebay, but i got the sneaking suspicion that they just wanted something to camp out for.

and yes ... if corky goes as captain kirk to a harry potter release party ... well, let's just say he'd better not try that shit at the next star wars party. ;)

I tried reading it all in one sitting, but I kept dozing off. Bless my dear family for leaving me alone. It must be said that young George DID try to get the book away from me when I had fallen asleep on the sofa. He failed!! I did finish it in the late morning today. Excellent! Now I don't have to worry about missing any work on Monday.

I haven't even read the 1st book nor watched the 1st movie yet.

I guess I'm not one of the cool kids.

Wheeeeee!!! I loved it and read it in five hours flat.

WTF? My feed reader didn't show your post until today. Weird.

You know, I'm just not into Harry Potter. Never read any of the books; only seen one of the movies. Eventually I will get around to reading them, probably with my kids, but I'll wait for the hype to die down first.

I read all day Sunday (well most of the day), then I read until 1:30 last night when I finished it...and finally breathed again!

I have a friend who keeps trying to get the end out of me. I just told him Death Eaters couldn't jinx it out of me!

Now I want to know what happens. I haven't finished the first book yet. In fact, I don't even know where I put it.
*sigh*
